As far back as 1999 – long before all the hype about remote proofing began – the former Best GmbH began creating remote proofing concepts for the printing and media industry. A short time later, it introduced the first commercial solution on to the market.

In fact, many companies are still launching aggressive advertising campaigns for features that have long been standard in our products: each new version of EFI Colorproof, EFI Screenproof and EFI PhotoXposure is able to create and read »Remoteproof Containers«. So, at the user's request, a Remoteproof Container can be created during proofing. The Remoteproof Container contains not only the page data for proofing, but also the color management settings that were activated at the time the file was printed.

If a Remoteproof Container that has been sent is loaded by the recipient in his EFI proofing product, the image data is output with exactly the same settings as those used by the sender. Thus, all the conditions are fulfilled to ensure that both sides achieve the same results.

EFI Remoteproof, a quality assurance tool, is available to measure the results and check that they match the original. In addition to a spectrophotometer for measuring color values, it includes a simple-to-use comparison software which makes it easy to compare proofs, printouts and color profiles and check that they agree. The resulting measurement data, i.e. the target values, can be embedded in the remote container.

Apart from remote proofing, EFI Remoteproof can also be used for other quality assurance applications. Two control strips, one with 15 color patches and one with 46 color patches, are provided. In addition, the software supports Ugra/Fogra control strips. Possible uses are:

• checking production runs to ensure that they meet in-house company standards
• checking proofs and printouts to ensure that they are within ISO tolerances
• checking proofs and printouts to ensure that they match

EFI Remoteproof 2.0.4 is available from your Betco right now. This update includes the following new features:

• the creation of a printable protocol in accordance with ISO/DIS 12647-2
• new functions for displaying 2D color space
• 3D display of spot colors that lie outside the color space
• proof approval on file saving
